This fee is considered as a big barrier to the French speaking candidates who consider it as a means of elimination into the registration process.
Considering the fact that a number of facilities is offered to French speaking students to cope with their new environment like the intensive English Language preparatory course, which very few families can afford due to the huge sum of 150,000frs being demanded as fees. On the other hand those with an intermediate level in English have to write a test to decipher their level before compilation of their files.
The for hour test which costs 40,000frs cfa for french speaking students make s it difficult to get into the University of Buea. It is worth noting that previously this test stood at 2000frs cfa.
It is in this light that such questions spring up like, Is UB trying to limit the number of French speaking students into this institution? Do other State universities like Dschang or Soa make any difference between french and English students as they pre register?
Apart from these costs, there are other hindrances to french speaking students as regards their stay in UB such as intimidation, tribalism, just to name a few. UB administrative authorities should clearly reverse this situation.
